On a national basis the knights raise money for various national projects. In recent years they raised £277,000 for "Wells for Water" followed by £109,000 for "Help the Hospices" and currently the project is "Partners for Health" which is being run in conjunction with CAFOD and SCIAF to raise funds for health projects in developing countries.

Locally the Knights of St Columba undertake various tasks, when called upon, to assist the clergy and the community at large, families and young people. Such service can range from providing financial support for good causes. They help in raising funds for schools, LIFE and others as and when required. They provide posters at Christmas and Easter. They also raise money for overseas Missions. The St Albans Council supports Fr. Con in Russia, Fr. Dominic in Belize and Fr Yance's Mission schools in Batam, Indonesia.
When needed The Knights provide stewarding for their organised events both locally and in the Diocese. The Knights also organise and arrange a variety of activities for the benefit of their families and for the community in general. Typical events include Retreats, Pilgrimages, Outings e.g. to France, Family Lunches, BBQ's, Walking Club, Dinner Dance and other evening functions e.g. Quiz Night.
We keep in touch with widows and members who are unwell and provide transport when the need arises. There is a Mass for the intention of deceased members each year.
